What does the logo represents?
The anchor is the mariner’s symbol for Columbus, patron of the Order, while the short sword symbolizes honor, distinction, bravery and courage; arranged in X (St Andrew’s Cross). The axe overcomes obstacles to objectives.
Why the Secrecy?
Many bishops, priests, and deacons are members of the Knights. Only the ceremonials are secret and if we were to speak of what happens, it would simply ruin it for those that join after us. The secrecy also teaches Knights that things heard in confidence should not be shared openly; similar to what is spoken between a priest and a penitent.
Why the Sword?
Knights of old carried the sword to defend their God, their Church, and their country according to the code of chivalry. Today, Sir Knights carry the sword to honor Christ and His apostles, they are only ceremonial and not a weapon.
What is E Membership?
E Membership is a way for a Catholic gentleman to join our Order online.
What is the difference between e Membership and a degree Member?
The only difference between an E Member and a degree Member is that an E member cannot vote or hold office. All other benefits of the Order are the same.
Why was this program developed?
As we all know, the world has changed and continues to change. We no longer put pen to paper but now write emails. We no longer go to the library to do research but go online. Today’s generation is a technological one, and if we wish to bring in new younger members, we need to adapt. This is the reason for E Membership. It is a fast, easy way for our technology-
How do we know these members are Catholic and meet the criteria of being a Knight?
Upon applying for membership, they are asked if they are a “baptised Catholic male”, “A practical Catholic”, and agree to abide by the Laws and Rules of the Knights of Columbus. They then agree that if these statements are false they will be removed from our Order and from any and all benefits including insurance. To verify their statements to be true, each new member must visit with an insurance agent. During this interview, the agent obtains all the same info that an Admission Committee would for a Degree Member. Once this process is complete the member is free to transfer to a local Council or remain an E Member.
